Spanish Novelist, Poet and Playwright

Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes is best-known for his epic satire masterpiece, the ingenious gentleman Don Quixote de la Mancha, simply known as Don Quixote.

Miguel de Cervantes was born on September 29, 1547, birth name of Alcalá de Henares. He lived an unsettled life of adventure and hardship.  He joined the army in Italy and was wounded in the battle of Lepanto in 1571. Four years later, on his way back to Spain, he was captured by Barbary pirates and taken as a slave until he was ransomed in 1580.
